From the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Happy summer! After this past winter, we were more than ready to change from our snow boots to walking sneakers to kick off the Foundation’s largest collective fundraising campaign across the nation, Great Strides. The Greater New York Chapter’s 10 walks were all a big success and I am happy to announce the walks will raise $2.85 million in 2015.

To further develop our Great Strides campaign, this year our chapter was able to obtain 10 TCS NYC Marathon bibs through the New York Road Runners Official Charity Partner Program. This program offers an excellent opportunity to raise awareness for cystic fibrosis, as our runners will be wearing special CFF jerseys which will be seen by the millions of people who attend and watch the race. We are so grateful for this new opportunity and will have a special cheering zone for our runners on Sunday, November 1st. Please keep an eye out for more details as we get closer to the event.

I am happy to welcome Lori Peterzell, Senior Director of Corporate Engagement, who is taking on a role that is brand new to the Greater New York Chapter. Lori will be working closely with our staff to help open new doors to engage businesses through sponsorship and corporate involvement. We welcome Lori’s distinct insight, having come from a long career in the corporate world, most recently as Vice President of Brand Strategy and Consumer Marketing for A&E. We look forward to expanding the reach of the Greater New York Chapter.

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We have come so far since 1955, making leaps and bounds in research and medical advancements. After 35 years with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – and 21 years as president and CEO – Robert J. Beall, Ph.D., has announced he is stepping down.  Our Chapter is humbled to honor Dr. Beall with the Breath of Life Award at our 60th Anniversary Gala. We hope that you can join us to celebrate this milestone and pay tribute to a leader whose innovation, passion, and commitment will never be forgotten.
