NYC Young Professionals Going to a Prom

What is “A Prom to Remember?”

The Greater New York Chapter’s 3rd Annual “A Prom to Remember” was hosted by the Young Professional Leadership Committee (YPLC), an active and diverse group of fifty 20- and 30-year-olds. Over 600 young professionals in the NYC metro area from all different industries and backgrounds came together for an all-inclusive, prom-themed night out at Hudson Terrace on Saturday, October 13th.  Everyone enjoyed an evening filled with great food, music, dancing and costumes all while raising over $150,000 and awareness for cystic fibrosis.

This year, we worked with a software company, ClickBid, which allowed us to pre-promote the silent auction packages and reach many more people, including those not in our area or unable to attend the event.  ClickBid is similar to ebay – guests register prior to the event, submit bids and are notified immediately if outbid. This technology works with all smartphones.

What is the origin of “A Prom to Remember?”

In a brainstorming meeting back in 2010, a YPLC member with cystic fibrosis mentioned that she was unable to attend her high-school prom.  The committee was touched by this and chose a prom theme. Not only did she attend the event, she was named Prom Queen!  The event has since grown in numbers and popularity and is soon to be the signature fundraising event for young professionals in the NYC metro area.
