Event Highlights - Entrée to a Cure

Pans sizzled and the air filled with the aroma of delicacies at the Greater New York Chapter, Long Island Office’s Grand Chef’s Gala, Entrée to a Cure. This inaugural event took place at Carlyle On The Green on Thursday, November 29th.  This very special event featured five celebrity chefs, each of which prepared a signature dish using ingredients that promote healthy pancreatic and lung function – gourmet style.

Lily Stolzberg, anchor & reporter at News 12 Long Island, emceed the evening with a little help from Camryn Koke. This eight year old dynamo spoke to the crowd about her life with CF and kicked off Bid for a Cure. Long time volunteers Bill & Connie O’Neill were presented with the Lou Gans Award for their years of service & support to the Foundation.

“Entrée to a Cure” was hosted by famed chef, Sue Torres, owner of Sueños Mexican restaurant in Manhattan.  Sue was a contestant on Bravo’s 2012 Top Chef Masters and has also served as a judge on Food Network’s popular Chopped.  A VIP cocktail reception included champagne & special hors d’oeuvres prepared by Hell’s Kitchen alumnus Fran Klier.  Courses were also prepared by Darren Carbone, Executive Chef at Super Linda, James McDevitt, Executive Chef at Jellyfish, & Missy Robbins, Executive Chef at A Voce. Guests got a glimpse into the kitchen as they watched on video as the chefs prepared their signature dishes.

Chef Torres has a special place in her heart for all families living with cystic fibrosis as this disease has directly affected her own family.  Sue was kind enough to designate the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as the beneficiary for all donations received during her time on Top Chef Masters.

Each chef presented their course, which was paired with a wine that complemented each dish.  The flavors of the city were brought to Long Island in a flare of both savory and sweet dishes executed by these world-renowned chefs, while raising vital funds for cystic fibrosis research.
