Volunteer Opportunities

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Greater New York Chapter has offices in three locations – Manhattan, Westchester and Long Island. The success of our events is attributed to our dedicated volunteers whose commitment makes a significant difference to the CF community. The Chapter offices offer several volunteer opportunities for the following:

Great Strides
Great Strides is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s largest national fundraising event.  In 2012, nearly $40 million was raised to help support life-saving research, quality care, and education programs - $3 million of which was raised by the Greater New York Chapter.  Thousands of walkers come together each year as one community and participate at one of our ten walk sites. Volunteer opportunities include set-up, registration, greeter, food and t-shirt distribution, and cheerleaders.  Volunteers are crucial to the walk program’s success!

CF Cycle For Life
This annual cycling event showcases some of the most scenic terrain in New York City and Long Island’s North Fork.  Riders choose from three routes (32 mile, 62 mile, 100 mile Long Island only) and enjoy festivities both before and after the ride.  Volunteers can choose from a variety of responsibilities, whether it’s marshaling to ensure the riders’ safety or help run event day logistics, this event is a memorable experience for all.

Young Professional Leadership Committee
The Young Professional Leadership Committee (YPLC) is an exclusive group of young professionals who volunteer their talents to the CF Foundation. These individuals apply the success, leadership and passion they exude in their careers to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis. Members are involved with the Chapter’s fundraising events, as well the Committee’s signature event, A Prom to Remember or Cruise to Cure (in Westchester).

Other Opportunities

Each office in the Greater New York Chapter hosts a gala/dinner dance and several golf outings. Additionally, volunteers are needed to help with projects (data entry, mailings, etc) in our offices. The CF Foundation values the service of our volunteers who have joined us in the fight to cure CF.

Internship Program

Each office offers an internship program for college and graduate students interested in learning more about event planning, fundraising and development. Assisting with the Chapter’s major events – Great Strides, CF Cycle for Life, galas and finest events – interns will receive hands on experience in fundraising, logistics and administrative projects.

For more information regarding our Internship and Volunteer programs, please contact Suzette Aviles at saviles@cff.org or 212-986-8783.

ProCUREment Committee

The newly created ProCUREment Committee is a team dedicated to securing donations that are auctioned at Chapter events. A large percentage of the funds the Chapter raises are based on this effort! It’s a fun and easy way to get involved with an organization that is making huge strides toward a cure for cystic fibrosis.

We are asking that members of the ProCUREment team collect a total of 12 donations a year (approximately one donation a month). These donations should have a value of $25 or more and will be used at various events throughout the year in silent auctions, live auctions, opportunity drawings or gift bags.

The committee will meet twice a year and will have quarterly phone calls to track each member’s progress. We are asking each member to commit to at least two years on the committee. Members will receive special incentives and recognition for their efforts, including free tickets to many of our events. Most importantly, you will have a direct hand in bringing us closer to a cure for cystic fibrosis!
