From the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

2014 was a year of “firsts” for the Greater New York Chapter. We began our fundraising year in May with the “Big Stars, Big Cure” variety show, and ended with the “Under the Bridge on 59th Street” Gala and inaugural “CF Stair Climb” at Citi Field in November. Between comedy, live music, and a sports arena, this year has been one for the record books!

Even with all of the new excitement, nothing could outshine our outstanding Great Strides campaign. Our three largest walks -- New York City, Westchester County, and Nassau County, have each ranked within the “Top 10” Great Strides walks in the country for 2014. This year, I am happy to report that our chapter will raise nearly $2.9 Million from all ten Greater New York walks! Thank you to all of the teams who worked tirelessly to reach their fundraising goals—your hard work and dedication have paid off once again!

Many of you have already heard our most recent headlines, which undoubtedly add to this year’s excitement and optimism for the future of cystic fibrosis research. In November the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation announced that its drug development affiliate Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Therapeutics has sold its royalty rights to CF treatments developed by Vertex Pharmaceuticals. The rights were sold to Royalty Pharma for $3.3 billion. This will truly be transformational for the CF Foundation and entire CF community, giving us a tremendous opportunity to accelerate our mission as never before. Although these new funds open significantly more doors for the CF Foundation, it is imperative to remember that fundraising will remain a critical revenue source; Royalty revenues alone will not be enough to fund our ever-expanding scientific agenda.

None of our success this year, both nationally and locally, would be possible without the commitment of our volunteers, generous donors and staff. I thank each and every one of you for your unwavering dedication to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Greater New York Chapter, and our mission of curing cystic fibrosis. With your help, we are making a significant difference in the lives of those with CF.

On behalf of the Greater New York Chapter, we look forward to a successful and eventful year in 2015.

I wish you all a happy and safe holiday season.
