Event Highlights - Cycle for Life

Over 250 cyclists traveled out to the North Fork on Long Island to participate in the 2nd Annual Aptalis Cycle for Life event on Saturday, September 20th. Participants congregated at the Hotel Indigo in Riverhead, New York, which served as the starting point and finishing line for the 32, 62 and 100 mile routes.

The 100 mile riders were the first to take off, leaving promptly at 6:30am, followed by the 62 and 32 mile riders. Each route allowed riders to view beautiful North Fork scenery, including vineyards, farmland, and the Long Island Sound. Each group was addressed before departing by CF grandmother, Eileen Costanzo, and the Deputy Chief of Operations for Suffolk County EMS, Karl Klug, who provided riders with safety guidelines.

At the finish line, volunteers, family, and friends greeted cyclists with a wonderful barbecue donated by Applebee’s Restaurants and enjoyed beer supplied by the Hook and Lager Vintage Tap Truck. While cyclists relaxed, awards were presented. Congratulations to Cycling Friends for winning the Highest Fundraising Team Award!

Thanks to all of the diligent fundraisers and donors, Cycle for Life has raised over $183,000 to date. The Greater NY Chapter would like to thank all of the riders, sponsors and volunteers for all of their hard work to help make the 2014 Aptalis CF Cycle For Life event such a huge success!
