CF in the Media


We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. This year, #GivingTuesday, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, fell on December 2nd. As a Chapter, we challenged ourselves and our supporters to raise $10,000 and to spread awareness through our social media accounts.

Truly embodying the generosity of the holiday season, an anonymous donor kindly pledged to match all donations up to $10,000 for the Greater New York Chapter’s Annual Fund for the #GivingTuesday campaign. All donations up to $10,000 made to the Greater New York Chapter’s Annual Fund received during the month of December will automatically make DOUBLE the impact from this match.

Aside from raising vital funds for cystic fibrosis, our additional goal was to spread awareness for this devastating disease. One way that we asked supporters to raise awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was by taking an #UnSelfie4CF and posting it on social media. An “UnSelfie” is different from the normal “selfie”, because instead of putting the emphasis on the person taking the photo, it highlights a cause that the person cares deeply about. In our supporter’s cases, that cause is finding a cure for cystic fibrosis. This #UnSelfie movement proved to be one of the best ways to show support for Giving Tuesday.

To help ensure that this campaign made as big of an impact as possible, the Greater New York Chapter recruited CF mom and volunteer Margarete Cassalina, to be our Social Ambassador. Margarete was able to utilize her extended reach and influcence across all social media platforms to help bring attention to #GivingTuesday and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

To date, the #GivingTuesday campaign has raised $17,011 and we have increased the Greater New York Chapter’s Facebook following by over 10%-- the largest jump in such a short amount of time that our page has ever seen!
