New York State Advocacy Day

April 9, 2014

We will be holding our first advocacy day in Albany, NY on Monday, February 2nd. With the help of our pro-bono lobbyist in Albany, Bob Reid, whose daughter has cystic fibrosis, we are initially targeting 8 senators/assembly people who have leadership positions and will be inviting 10-15 advocates to attend from throughout New York State. From our area, we are hoping to meet with, Senator Kemp Hannon (District 6), Assemblyman Dick Gottfried (District 75), Speaker/Assemblyman Sheldon Silver (District 65), Senator Dean Skelos (District 9), Senator Jeff Klein (District 34) and Assemblyman Kevin Cahill (District 103). Topics covered will be 1) educating our elected officials in Albany about cystic fibrosis, 2) the importance of funding the Over 21 program, 3) continued access to quality care, and 4) proclaiming May as Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month. If any of you have a relationship with the above-mentioned members, please let Trina Fontaine know (kfontaine@cff.org or 914-993-1460). We hope that this will lay the ground work for us to hold a larger, more inclusive event in 2016.
