From the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year! As 2015 comes to a close, it’s a fitting time to review some of the amazing highlights and milestones from the Greater New York Chapter. We’ve had a busy and productive year and I’m proud to share a snapshot of our Chapter’s accomplishments.

  • In the months of May and June, the Greater NY Chapter Great Strides walks raised over $2.68 million.
  • At October’s CFF Stair Climb at Citi Field, 275 participants climbed to new heights in raising awareness and over $40,000 in funds.
  • In November, our inaugural team of runners participated in the NYC Marathon raising over $95,000. It was a terrific opportunity for our chapter to be represented and we look forward to 2016!

However, the greatest highlight of the 2015 year was the 60th Anniversary celebration of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Over 500 guests filled the breathtaking city skyline lit ballroom of Cipriani’s 42nd Street in Manhattan as we honored our former President and CEO, Dr. Robert J. Beall, with the Breath of Life award at our 60th Anniversary Gala. I am delighted to announce that this event raised over $2 million! This night of grandeur consisted of superb entertainment from the New York Pops, and a program featuring guest speakers from our local and national CF community. Each presenter paid a well deserved tribute to Dr. Beall for his tremendous accomplishments over the past three and a half decades. Dr. Beall will certainly be missed but his legacy of leadership, passion, and commitment will forever be a cornerstone of the Foundation. We wish a warm and sincere welcome to Dr. Preston Campbell who will take over the reigns as President and CEO, and who undoubtedly will bring us closer to reaching our goal of finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.

Even though the warmth of spring may seem far away, now is the time to start thinking about why we stride at our Great Strides walks. I am thrilled to announce that our new “Lace Up. Walk. Cure cystic fibrosis.” campaign has launched, consisting of a new tagline and fresh, redesigned materials. Please continue to tell us why you participate in Great Strides and don’t forget to share your story with the Foundation by using the hash tag #whyIstride4cf.

As always, I am grateful for the commitment of our volunteers, generous donors, and staff for making a difference in the lives of those with cystic fibrosis. I wish each of you a very happy holiday season and even more wonderful moments in 2016!

Sincerely,

Martine Denis
