From the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! I can’t believe how fast 2016 flew by. There were so many fantastic events, research updates, and successful campaigns it’s hard to know what to touch upon.

In 2016 we welcomed a new member to our Cystic Fibrosis Foundation team! In May, Marc Ginsky joined the Foundation as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer overseeing the Foundation’s day-to-day operations, including oversight of the IT, HR, Communications departments and the Field. Marc brings more than 18 years of experience from the health care industry, with a focus on expanding patient access to life changing treatments. One of Marc’s first priorities was to visit a large number of chapter offices to meet the Foundation’s employees in the field and learn about opportunities in local markets. Our Chapter was lucky to be one of the first cities Marc visited and we are so happy to have him on our team!

This past September we held our annual Scientific Update. The evening was hosted by Marc Hurlbert, Chief Mission Officer at the Breast Cancer Foundation, and we were fortunate to have an amazing panel of speakers including Dr. Michael Boyle, CFF Senior Vice President of Therapeutic Development. Previously the Director of Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program at Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Dr. Boyle now devotes much of his time researching clinical trials and the development of new, cutting-edge CF therapies. Dr. Boyle provided attendees and live stream viewers with a general overview of current research, therapies, and the recent advancements in lung transplantation. Other speakers included Dr. Patricia Walker, Co-Director of Mount Sinai Beth Israel’s Cystic Fibrosis Center, Katy Starck-Monte, adult with CF and organ transplant recipient, and Margarete Cassalina, Social Media Ambassador. If you would like to view the live stream recording, please contact Shara Swift at SSwift@CFF.org.

The Greater New York Chapter’s Individual Giving program had a great year in 2016! We incorporated a new campaign for #GivingTuesday - a national day of giving back, following the widely recognized days for shopping, Black Friday and Cyber Monday - which was held on Tuesday, November 29th. We asked our community to become a CFF teamMATE and help spread CF Awareness by volunteering, attending a CFF event, posting a CF fact on social media, etc., and tag it with #CFAwareness and #GivingTuesday. The outcome was great and we ended up raising $5,790! Not only did we exceed our $5,000 goal, we also raised $1,600 more than last year. Shortly after #GivingTuesday, the Greater New York Chapter became eligible for the Marlin Oil Annual Fund match! Due to the amazing support of our community, we were thrilled to exceed our Annual Fund $150,000 goal by over $75,000+!

I’m looking forward to another successful year and I hope you are too!

Sincerely,

Martine Denis
